Announced establishment of a Special Committee on Cyber Bullying including stricter social media responsibilities

On 19 July 2024, the Ministry of Communications of Malaysia announced that a special committee to address cyberbullying in Malaysia had been established. The Ministry noted that the committee involves the participation of the Ministry of Communications, the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of Digital Affairs, and the Legal Affairs Division, supported by the Communications and Multimedia Commission, Royal Malaysian Police, and the Attorney General's Department. The committee will focus on social media platforms and on developing measures for combating cyberbullying. The committee will also review and amend relevant laws and propose amendments to combat cyberbullying.
