On 24 July 2024, the European Union's Network and Information Systems Cooperation Group published the first report on the cybersecurity and resilience of Europe’s telecommunications and electricity sectors. The report highlights concerns about supply chain security, lack of cyber professionals, and threats from cybercriminals and state-sponsored actors. The report identifies key risks, including ransomware, data wipers, attacks originating from large bot networks, exploitation of zero-day vulnerabilities and malicious insiders. The report recommends improving resilience and cybersecurity posture through sharing good practices on mitigating ransomware, enhancing cooperation with the Computer Security Incident Response Team and law enforcement, improving cyber situational awareness, contingency planning, and addressing supply chain security. The report encourages prompt implementation of resilience-enhancing measures that build on existing work and recommendations.
