Saudi Arabia: Closed consultation on Amended Communications and Information Technology System draft including content moderation authority governance

On 7 August 2024, the Communications and Technology Commission of Saudi Arabia (CITC) closes the public consultation on the Draft Amendment to the Communications and Information Technology System, including content moderation authority governance. The Amendment would remove the Communications, Space and Technology Commission's power to partly or fully block digital content platforms. Further, it would require the Commission to establish rules governing the reporting of violations, while empowering the Commission to require service providers to appoint specialised companies or technical entities to verify a service provider's compliance with the Act.
