On 22 July 2024, the European Commission approved the acquisition of Winthrop Technologies, a dedicated builder of data centers located in Ireland, by Blackstone Inc., a global alternative asset manager, under the EU Merger Regulation. The transaction relates primarily to the construction of datacenters. The Commission examined the transaction under the simplified merger review procedure and concluded that the transaction would not raise competition concerns, given the companies’ limited market positions resulting from the proposed transaction.
