On 19 July 2024, the Ministry of Home Affairs in Singapore issued Account Restriction Directions (ARDs) under the Foreign Interference (Countermeasures) Act 2021 (FICA) to 5 social media platforms, including X, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok. The directions mandate the platforms to block access to 95 online accounts for Singapore end-users. The directions were issued following investigations that linked these accounts to a coordinated network operated by Guo Wengui, the New Federal State of China, and the Himalaya Supervisory Organisation. These accounts were involved in disseminating narratives undermining Singapore's political leadership transition, posing a threat to the nation's sovereignty and social cohesion. The ARDs aim to mitigate hostile information campaigns by disabling interactions between the specified accounts and users within Singapore.
