Japan: Closed consultation on draft report on Next-Generation ITS Communications in the Era of Autonomous Driving (Second Period)

On 21 August 2024, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) closes the public consultation on the draft interim report of the study group on next-generation ITS Communications in the Era of Autonomous Driving. The consultation aims to gather public input on the proposed allocation of additional frequencies in the 5.9 GHz band for Vehicle to Everything (V2X) communications, a key component in the development of intelligent transport systems (ITS) for autonomous driving. The MIC noted the initiative aims to align with international standards and discussions, including those at the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), and to explore specific usage measures for the 5.9 GHz frequency band alongside the existing ITS frequency bands.
