Canada: Issued Guide on the Scope of the Directive on Automated Decision-Making

On 27 June 2024, the Government of Canada released a Guide outlining the Scope of the Directive on Automated Decision-Making. This Directive applies to departments employing automated decision systems to fully or partially automate administrative decisions, encompassing systems utilising artificial intelligence (AI) and other technologies. The directive specifically covers systems developed or procured after April 2020. The Guide clarifies the Directive's objectives, specifies the criteria for inclusion under its scope, and provides examples of system activities that fall within or outside the directive's purview.
