On 1 April 2019, the Government of Canada adopted the Directive on Automated Decision-Making. This Directive aims to regulate the Government's use of artificial intelligence (AI) and ensure that automated decision systems are deployed in a manner that mitigates risks to clients, federal institutions, and Canadian society. It seeks to promote more efficient, accurate, consistent, and interpretable decisions in accordance with Canadian law. The Directive mandates the implementation and enhancement of algorithmic impact assessments, transparency measures, and quality assurances.
