Description

Announced FCC Rules on AI-generated Robocalls

On 16 July 2024, the Federal Communications Center introduced new rules regarding AI-generated robocalls. If adopted, these rules would mandate that callers disclose their use of AI-generated calls. Specifically, the proposed rules would define what constitutes an AI-generated call and require callers to inform consumers when obtaining prior express consent that AI-generated calls will be used. Additionally, callers would need to notify consumers during each call that they are receiving an AI-generated call. This aims to provide consumers with the opportunity to identify and avoid calls that may carry an increased risk of fraud and other scams. Furthermore, the proposal seeks additional comments and information on emerging technologies designed to alert consumers to unwanted and illegal AI-generated calls and texts.
