Description

Adopted guideline on Advertising Overseas Gambling

On 1 November 2021, New Zealand's internal department adopted a guideline clarifying obligations under section 16 of the Gambling Act, which makes it an offence to advertise overseas gambling. This includes any communication that publicises or promotes gambling or a gambling operator located outside New Zealand which is likely to induce people to gamble outside of New Zealand. The guideline specifies exceptions for incidental promotions within communications, advertisements for gambling equipment intended for buyers of such equipment, and messages aimed at preventing, minimising, or treating harm.
