Description

Issued Classification Office decision designating "The Shitposter" as objectionable

On 31 October 2019, the New Zealand Classification Office, acting under the Films, Videos, and Publications Classification Act 1993, classified the computer game “The Shitposter” as objectionable. This decision followed an investigation initiated by the Chief Censor on 15 October 2019 due to concerns over the game's content, which simulates and references real-world terrorist violence, including mass shootings, in a manner deemed likely to be injurious to the public good. The game, developed by 2Genderz and lacking in any stated country of origin, was found to trivialise and promote criminal activity, specifically acts of terrorism and mass murder, through its gameplay and in-game commentary. This ruling restricts the distribution and possession of the game in New Zealand.
