FAS initiates legal proceedings against Apple over AppStore conditions

On 27 October 2021, the Russian Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) has filed a case against Apple alleging breach of the Law on Protection of Competition. Previously, the FAS had already ordered Apple to adjust clause 3.1 of its AppStore Review Guidelines, so that app developers would not be inhibited in their choice of payment method. Apple was given until 30 September 2021 to implement the required changes, but because it did not comply, the case on violation of antitrust laws was opened. A turnover penalty dependant on Apple's market revenue is possible if it is found to have violated Russian antitrust laws.
