On 1 July 2024, the Norwegian Data Protection Authority (Datatilsynet) announced that the Oslo District Court upheld the fine against Grindr for 65 million NOK, ruling that the app did not have valid consent to share personal data with advertising partners. This data included sensitive information about users' app usage related to their sexual orientation or relationships. The ruling supports the conclusions of the Datatilsynet and the Privacy Appeals Board. In October 2023, Grindr sued the state, represented by the Privacy Appeals Board, challenging the validity of the Board's decision. The case was heard in the Oslo District Court from 12 to 14 March 2024. Grindr's arguments that their consents were valid and that the fine was disproportionate were rejected. Grindr has the option to appeal the decision within one month after the court's recess.
