Republic of Korea: Issued PIPC standards for personal information protection-oriented design in smart home devices such as robot hoovers

Description

Issued PIPC standards for personal information protection-oriented design in smart home devices such as robot hoovers

On 30 June 2024, the Personal Information Protection Committee (PIPC) adopted standards for personal information protection in smart home devices such as robot vacuum cleaners. The PIPC launched a pilot certification program to prevent data breaches. Following the 2023 certification of a home security camera, the 2024 pilot includes products such as camera-equipped robot vacuums and home robots. The Privacy by Design (PbD) Certification ensures data protection is integrated into product development, manufacturing, and disposal. Certification for selected products will begin in late June, with consultations and briefings for each company.
