Description

Implemented Protection from Harassment (Amendment) Act

On 1 April 2020, the Protection from Harassment (Amendment) Act aimed at strengthening measures against the spread of online falsehoods entered into force. The amendments empower courts to issue various orders to individuals and entities, including stop publication orders, correction orders, disabling orders, targeted correction orders, and general correction orders, to address falsehoods published online. These orders are designed to stop the dissemination of false statements, correct the misinformation, and limit access to such content across platform intermediaries, including user-generated content platforms and search service providers. Additionally, the amendments introduced a new offence of doxxing, enhancing protections against the unauthorised dissemination of personal information intended to harass.
