United States of America: Closed consultation on Texas Data Privacy and Security Act Public Portal requesting feedback and change recommendations

On 30 September 2024, the Texas Department of Information Resources (DIR) closes the public consultation on the public portal for feedback on the Texas Data Privacy and Security Act. The Texas Data Privacy and Security Act, enacted through House Bill 4 in 2023, becomes effective on 1 July 2024, with section 3 mandating the DIR to establish an online portal where the public can submit feedback and suggest modifications to the Act. The Act regulates how certain businesses handle consumers' personal data, granting consumers rights to access, correct, and opt out of data processing. It also mandates businesses to limit data collection, provide notices, and respond to consumer requests. The Texas Attorney General enforces the Act, and complaints should be directed to their office. Feedback from the portal will be included in a DIR report to the Legislature on the Act's implementation and potential changes.
