On 19 October 2021, the Amended Act on the Protection and Use of Location Information, including data protection regulation, was adopted. Under the Amended Act, location information providers are required, prior to collecting such information, to obtain consent from the data subject both for the collection and to the providers' terms and conditions. Further, providers must disclose a detailed privacy policy following the requirements of the Personal Information Protection Act. Providers are also required to destroy location information as soon as the purpose of collection or use is fulfilled. The Amended Act enters into effect on 20 April 2022.
