Adopted Council of EU decision to ban broadcasting of additional Russia-associated media outlets

On 17 May 2024, the Council of the European Union suspended the broadcasting activities of four media outlets, namely Voice of Europe, RIA Novosti, Izvestia and Rossiyskaya Gazeta. The Council found that these outlets were under the direct or indirect control of the Russian Federation. Under the Charter of Fundamental Rights, the listed organisations and their employees will not be prevented from carrying out activities other than broadcasting within the EU.
