Opening of a new statutory inquiry into Twitter’s compliance with GDPR

On 22 January 2019, the Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC) opened a new statutory investigation into Twitter over a data breach reported by the company on 8 January 2019. The inquiry aims to determine if Twitter complied with Article 33 of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) regarding the requirements of notification of a personal data breach to the supervisory authority. The new investigation will run simultaneously with the one opened in 2018 regarding the company’s compliance with the GDPR provisions of implementing technical and organizational measures to ensure the safety and protection of personal data.
