Singapore: Issued MCI direction to IMDA to issue a Access Blocking Order on behalf of Asia Sentinel for non-compliance with Correction Direction

Description

Issued MCI direction to IMDA to issue a Access Blocking Order on behalf of Asia Sentinel for non-compliance with Correction Direction

On 2 June 2023, the Ministry of Communications and Information (MCI) directed the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) to issue an Access Blocking Order due to Asia Sentinel's non-compliance with a Correction Direction regarding falsehoods in their article "Singapore kills a Chicken to Scare the Monkeys." The order required that facts be juxtaposed against the falsehoods, allowing end-users in Singapore to read both versions and draw their own conclusions. Asia Sentinel was mandated to place Correction Notices at the top of the article and on the main page of their website. Asia Sentinel did not comply with these directives. Consequently, the Access Blocking Order would require Asia Sentinel to disable access for end-users in Singapore to the online location where the falsehoods were published. If Asia Sentinel subsequently complies with the full requirements of the Correction Direction, the Minister will cancel the Access Blocking Order.
