The Data Protection Law is adopted by the Egyptian Government. The Law establishes obligations for data controllers and processors, in particular breach reporting deadlines and the appointment of a data protection officer in Egypt for foreign companies. Moreover, the Law introduces a licensing framework for the organisations dealing with sensitive data. The law introduces rules for the legal basis of data processing and the data subjects' rights to revoke consent to processing and to have their data rectified. The exercise of the rights can be subjected to a fee. Finally, law enforcement is delegated to the new data protection regulator, the Personal Data Protection Centre. The law will come into force on 15 October 2020.
