Description

Issued EDOB statement on the usage of data by Meta for AI training

On 21 June 2024, the Swiss Federal Protection Department (EDOB) issued a statement about Meta's use of data for AI training. In particular, the EDOB stated that Meta agreed not to use data from adult users of Facebook and Instagram to train AI models. The decision followed the EDOB's demand for Meta to cease these plans. Meta, formerly Facebook, planned to use users' photos and posts from Facebook and Instagram to develop and improve its AI services starting 26 June 2024, excluding private messages. Asserting that its interests outweighed users' rights, Meta would not have requested users' consent for this usage.
