Announced Procon-SP inquiry into AI use in e-commerce

On 18 June 2024, the Consumer Protection Authority of the State of São Paulo (Procon-SP) announced the launch of an inquiry aimed at gathering consumer perceptions on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in online shopping. The inquiry was opened following a previous survey conducted in September 2023, which focused on consumer experiences with AI in customer service interactions. The inquiry, available on the agency's website and social networks, features a questionnaire with 13 multiple-choice questions covering various aspects of AI applications in e-commerce, including data collection, consumer behaviour analysis, personalised advertising, and experiences of fraud. The findings from this inquiry will inform the development of Procon-SP's future educational materials, lectures, and research activities in the digital economy sector.
