Reached settlement in California AG investigation into Tilting Point over alleged children's data privacy violations

On 18 June 2024, the California Attorney General (AG) and Los Angeles City Attorney announced a settlement with Tilting Point Media LLC (Tilting Point), addressing allegations of illegal data collection and sharing of children's data without parental consent through the mobile app game “SpongeBob: Krusty Cook-Off”. The settlement, amounting to USD 500’000 in civil penalties, mandates Tilting Point to adhere to injunctive terms for lawful data collection and disclosure practices. These include obtaining parental consent and ensuring diligent configuration of third-party software in their mobile games to comply with the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and the federal Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).
