Description

Signed EU Commission and eSafety Commissioner administrative arrangement to support the enforcement of social media regulations

On 11 June 2024, Commission Services, which is responsible for the enforcement of the Digital Services Act (DSA) in the European Union, signed an administrative arrangement with the eSafety Commissioner, Australia's regulator for online safety. The agreement aims to support the enforcement of social media regulations under both the EU's DSA and Australia's Online Safety Act 2021. The arrangement facilitates cooperation in several areas, including the transparency and accountability of online platforms, risk assessment and mitigation concerning illegal content, and the use of algorithms and artificial intelligence. Additionally, it encompasses measures to protect minors online through age-appropriate design and age verification. The collaboration will be advanced through information exchanges, expert dialogues, joint training of technical staff, and sharing of best practices.
