United States of America: Announced Texas Attorney General investigation into data brokers' compliance with business registration requirement established by SB 2105

On 18 June 2024, the Texas Attorney General (AG) issued notifications to over one hundred companies for not complying with the Texas Data Broker Law, which mandates registration with the Texas Secretary of State. The law, part of Chapter 509 of the Texas Business and Commerce Code, established by SB 2105, requires data brokers to publicly register and implement safeguards for Texans' personal data, including financial, healthcare, and geolocation information.
