Description

Issued Data Protection Commission statement following Meta’s decision to stop using users' photos and posts for AI services training and development

On 14 June 2024, the Data Protection Commission (DPC) announced that following the dialogue with Meta, the company decided to pause its plans to train its large language model using public content from adults on Facebook and Instagram across the European Union/European Economic Area. The decision to pose the practice was adopted following ongoing discussions between Meta and the DPC, alongside other EU data protection authorities, to ensure compliance with data protection regulations concerning user-generated content on platforms. The DPC will continue its engagement with Meta on this matter to address and resolve any data protection concerns.
