Issued Hamburg Commissioner Guidelines on new Meta Privacy Policy for AI technologies

On 12 June 2024, the Hamburg Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (HmbBfDI) issued a guideline on Meta's new privacy policy, which involves using personal data from Facebook, Instagram, and Threads for AI training, which will enter into effect on 26 June 2024. This policy affects billions of users globally, aiming to develop and enhance Meta's AI services. Users have the option to object through their profile settings under the Privacy Policy section. The Hamburg Data Protection Authority has engaged with the lead European supervisory authority in Ireland (IDPC) to address the legal concerns surrounding this policy, emphasising the need for a uniform assessment across the European Union on the processing of personal data for AI training.
