Adopted Law on Cybersecurity (No. 24/2018/QH14) including content moderation regulation

On 12 June 2018, the National Assembly adopted the Law on Cybersecurity (No. 24/2018/QH14), which includes content moderation regulations. The legislation provides for the removal of unlawful or false information in cyberspace. The law enumerates a list of unlawful acts in Articles 8 and 18. This encompasses the dissemination of misinformation, social evils, and online content that could potentially incite public disorder and cybercrime, as well as the propagation of information against the state. Furthermore, the legislation prohibits actions that could potentially disrupt critical infrastructure or violate the integrity of others' online systems. Finally, the article prohibits interference with cybersecurity efforts or the use of such efforts for personal gain. The legislation will enter into force on 1 January 2019.
