On 19 June 2024, the Electronic Transactions Development Agency (ETDA) closes the consultation on its draft standards for digital identity verification. The draft standards set requirements for identity providers (IdPs) to standardise their practices in verifying the identities of foreign users. The verification is based on the Identity Assurance Level (IAL) framework, which ensures that identity verification processes are reliable and secure. The draft standards outline the necessary data sets and processes for a digital identity verification system. They emphasise the roles of authoritative sources, authenticators (IdPs), and relying parties (RPs) in exchanging information securely and consistently. This initiative extends the existing Electronic Transactions Standards, detailing frameworks and requirements for identity and authentication assurance levels, particularly for verifying identities using various identification documents, including non-Thai documents.
