Description

Passed Bill requiring warnings on generative artificial intelligence systems (SB 9450)

On 6 June 2024, the New York Senate passed the Bill requiring warnings on generative artificial intelligence systems (SB 9450). The Bill amends the general business law to require warnings on generative artificial intelligence systems. The warnings must inform users that the outputs from these systems could be inaccurate or inappropriate. If operators fail to display these warnings, they could face a civil penalty of USD 25 per user or up to USD 100’000, with each year of non-compliance considered a separate violation. The Bill would take effect 90 days after its signing into law.
