Description

Opened consultation on implementation of Gigabit Infrastructure Act

On 4 June 2024, the Ministry of Digitalisation opened a public consultation on the implementation of the European Gigabit Infrastructure Act (GIA) within Poland. This consultation is scheduled to conclude on 5 July 2024. The Act, which was adopted on 29 April 2024, aims to replace Directive 2014/61/EU and facilitate the deployment of high-speed electronic communications networks across the European Union. In order to achieve this, the act seeks to ease administrative burdens and digitise permit processes. The consultation aims to gather opinions on the potential integration of the GIA into the Polish legal framework. This integration would be achieved through amendments to the Act of 7 May 2010 (Mega Act) and other related acts. Stakeholders, particularly those from the telecommunications sector and local governments, are encouraged to provide information on various aspects of the implementation, including the coordination of access requests to technical infrastructure and the exemption of certain buildings from fibre optic infrastructure requirements due to disproportionate burdens.
