Closed consultation on CRTC regulatory policy on local content requirements for online streaming services

On 2 July 2024, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) closes the public consultation on the regulatory policy on local content requirements for e-commerce platforms and streaming service providers. The regulatory policy forms part of the CRTC's mandate to ensure that all sectors contributing to the Canadian broadcasting system, including new digital entrants, provide support for Canadian and Indigenous content. The regulatory policy requires these services to contribute a minimum of 5% of their Canadian revenues to the Canadian broadcasting system, beginning in the 2024-2025 broadcast year. The requirement would apply to online streaming services with annual revenue exceeding CAD 25 million.
