On 30 June 2024, the Chinese Special Equipment Office of the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) closes the public consultation on the Implementation Plan for Special Equipment Safety Sandbox Regulation. The implementation plan aims to support market-driven development and provide guidance and coordination to promote safety and innovation. It provides a framework for the voluntary participation of manufacturing units using new materials, technologies, and processes to evaluate and prevent safety risks. The implementation plan includes information regarding the application submission, expert review, plan development and evaluation, trial production and testing, process supervision, reporting, and technical review. Furthermore, applicants submit detailed trial plans, conduct trials with ongoing monitoring, and report progress while experts review final reports to decide on success, leading to formal approvals or a three-year reapplication ban for unsuccessful trials.
