Closed inquiry into TikTok over alleged breach of privacy law

On 29 May 2024, the Australian Privacy Commissioner closed the preliminary inquiry into TikTok over an alleged breach of privacy law. The Privacy Commissioner stated that tracking tools, including pixels and cookies, are " harmful, invasive and corrosive of online privacy", and there is "no clear and obvious breach of Australian privacy law". Therefore, no investigation will be opened.
