Implemented Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (Act 588) including cybersecurity regulation

On 1 April 1999, the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (Act 588) including cybersecurity regulation entered into force. The Act is applicable to any licensee under the Act and any person who provides relevant facilities or services under the Act. The Act grants the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) the power to designate a technical standards forum for the development of a technical code. The technical code would include, among other things, requirements for network interoperability and the promotion of the safety of network facilities. Further, the code may specify matters related to the provision of network facilities, network services, applications services and customer equipment and cabling as well as the adoption of international technical standards.
