Description

Closed GVH investigation into Eventim following commitment to compensate consumers for not disclosing certain fees

On 29 May 2024, the Hungarian Competition Authority (GVH) concluded its investigation into Eventim, a leading ticketing portal, for not disclosing certain fees above the ticket price promptly during the purchase process. The investigation, initiated in May 2023, determined that Eventim engaged in "drip" pricing, where handling, delivery, and collection fees were not communicated to consumers until after tickets were added to the shopping basket. Recognising Eventim's cooperation throughout the investigation, including admitting the infringement and waiving its right to appeal, the GVH decided not to impose a fine. Instead, Eventim has agreed to compensate affected consumers with HUF 700 per purchase made between 1 January 2022 and 2 February 2023, potentially benefiting 80'000 to 120'000 consumers with a total compensation exceeding HUF 70 million. Additionally, Eventim committed to simplifying its tariff structure to a single service charge, with the GVH to conduct a post-clearance review to ensure full compliance.
