China: Published Lingang New Area Trial General Data List

On 17 May 2024, the Lingang New Area of the Shanghai Pilot Free Trade Zone (FTZ) released the first batch of trial lists for general data across three sectors aimed at facilitating cross-border data flows for companies operating in the area. These sectors are intelligent connected vehicles, biopharmaceuticals, and mutual funds. The general data lists are scenario-based, detailing various situations where data export is required and permitted without additional compliance procedures. These scenarios include multinational production and manufacturing of intelligent connected vehicles, medical clinical trials and research and development, and information sharing for fund market research. However, while companies can export data for these purposes freely, the export of personal information will still be subject to certain volume restrictions.
