EDPB adopts urgent binding decision on Irish DPC's measures towards Facebook

The EDPB has issued its first urgent binding decision under Art. 66(2) GDPR regarding the Irish Data Protection Commission's (DPC) measures towards Facebook. Following a request from the Hamburg Data Protection Commissioner, the EDPB has decided on 15 July 2021, that the DPC does not need to adopt final measures against Facebook Ireland concerning Facebook's processing of user data from WhatsApp and its other companies as a joint controller. However, the EDPB also stated that it considered the combination or comparison of such data very likely and requested that the DPC carry out a statutory investigation.
