Drafted Bill on the collection and storage of industrial data including data localisation requirement

On 22 May 2024, the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade published a draft of a Bill on the collection and storage of industrial data in order to safeguard data of strategic importance. The Bill lays out a procedure for collecting, storing, and using industrial data and provides for a legal exchange of data and the conditions for its circulation. The Bill distinguishes between two types of data. The state data refers to governmental bodies, and commercial data refers to professional activities. Further, the Bill establishes rights and obligations for data subjects. Finally, the Bill would require data to be collected and stored on platforms located in Russia.
