United States of America: Adopted Strategic Vision for Artificial Intelligence Safety Institute (AISI)

On 21 May 2024, the US Secretary of Commerce adopted a strategic vision for the US Artificial Intelligence Safety Institute (AISI), detailing the institute's goal, including the regulatory areas it will focus. The AISI, established within the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), focuses on advancing AI safety science, demonstrating safe AI practices, and supporting global coordination on AI safety. The adopted strategy specifies that AISI will focus on testing advanced models and systems to identify and evaluate new risks, developing guidelines for assessments and risk mitigation, and conducting and coordinating technical research.
