Republic of Korea: Closed consultation on PIPC standards for actions by personal information processors regarding automated decisions

Description

Closed consultation on PIPC standards for actions by personal information processors regarding automated decisions

On 7 June 2024, the Korean Personal Information Protection Commission (PIPC) closes its public consultation on the standards for actions by personal information processors regarding automated decisions. The standards address how companies and institutions must act when data subjects exercise their rights concerning automated Artificial Intelligence (AI) decisions. In particular, the standards include requirements such as providing clear explanations for significant automated decisions, suspending the application of contested decisions, and balancing the disadvantages to data subjects against the benefits to processors when refusing requests. Furthermore, the PIPC will release a draft guide on data subjects' rights and hold meetings to gather industry feedback.
