Chile: Introduced Bill regulating Artificial Intelligence systems (Nr. 16821-19) including data protection requirements

On 7 May 2024, the Bill regulating Artificial Intelligence systems (Nr. 16821-19), including data protection requirements, was introduced to the Chamber of Deputies of Chile. The Bill introduces a risk-based approach and emphasises the importance of developing and using AI systems within a common ethical framework, addressing significant risks that could violate ethical and legal values both nationally and internationally. The Bill would require AI systems to be developed and used in compliance with privacy and data protection regulations, ensuring the interoperability of the data used. In addition, it would require that serious incidents involving AI systems be reported to the Agency in charge of Personal Data Protection, with operators obligated to provide notification and implement contingency measures.
