Chile: Introduced Bill regulating Artificial Intelligence systems (Nr. 16821-19) including design requirements

On 7 May 2024, the Bill regulating Artificial Intelligence systems (Nr. 16821-19), including design requirements, was introduced to the Chamber of Deputies of Chile. The Bill introduces a risk-based approach and emphasises the importance of developing and using AI systems within a common ethical framework, addressing significant risks that could violate ethical and legal values both nationally and internationally. The Bill aims to ensure AI systems are developed and used ethically and responsibly. The Bill would require AI systems to be designed and used to promote equal opportunities, gender equality, and cultural diversity, avoiding discriminatory effects and biases. In addition, it would require AI systems to ensure proper functioning throughout their lifecycle by those who design, develop, operate, or deploy them.
