Adopted Department of Labor's Artificial Intelligence and Worker Well-being: Principles for Developers and Employers

On 16 May 2024, the Department of Labor issued the Artificial Intelligence and Worker Well-being: Principles for Developers and Employers. The guidelines were adopted under the direction of Executive Order 14110 on the Safe, Secure, and Trustworthy Development and Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI). The guidelines outline a set of guiding principles aimed at the development and deployment of AI systems across all sectors in the workplace. These principles emphasise worker empowerment, ethical development of AI, clear governance and human oversight, transparency in AI use, protection of labour and employment rights, enabling workers through AI, support for workers impacted by AI, and responsible handling of worker data. The principles are designed to be a framework for businesses to customise best practices in AI use, ensuring that the development and deployment of AI technologies are conducted with consideration for worker well-being and rights.
