On 15 May 2024, the Office of the Attorney General of the State of New York (OAG) announced a settlement with DoorDash, an online food delivery platform. The settlement resolves allegations that DoorDash unfairly rejected job applicants with criminal histories, violating state human rights and corrections laws, as well as the New York City Fair Chance Act. DoorDash allegedly rejected about 3'000 applicants over one year based solely on their criminal history, without considering factors like the age of the offense or efforts at rehabilitation. As part of the settlement, DoorDash will reevaluate these rejections, revise its hiring policies for fairness, and provide updated notices about applicant rights under the Fair Chance Act. Additionally, DoorDash will pay a USD 75'000 penalty, distributed to qualifying rejected applicants.
