United Kingdom: Closed Ofcom investigation into Twitch's compliance with obligation to protect minors from harmful video content

Description

Closed Ofcom investigation into Twitch's compliance with obligation to protect minors from harmful video content

On 13 May 2024, the Office of Communications (Ofcom) announced that it will not open a formal investigation into Twitch due to its compliance with previous recommendations. In particular, Ofcom stated that Twitch implemented measures to prevent users who are not logged in or are under 18 from accessing harmful content, such as content with sexual themes or gambling. Further, the platform removed harmful content from the homepage and added a new section about content classification to Twitch's Guide for Parents and Educators. Ofcom stated that it will continue to monitor Twitch's compliance and effectiveness in protecting children and will publish reports on the online safety measures in the summer of 2024.
