European Union: Issued European Commission decision following investigation into X qualification as a gatekeeper under DMA based on online advertising service X Ads

Description

Issued European Commission decision following investigation into X qualification as a gatekeeper under DMA based on online advertising service X Ads

On 13 May 2024, the European Commission concluded its assessment and decided not to designate X as a gatekeeper for its online advertising service, X Ads, under the Digital Markets Act (DMA). The decision was made following a review process initiated on 1 March 2024, after X submitted a self-assessment indicating it met the relevant thresholds to be considered a gatekeeper. The Commission determined that while X Ads does meet the quantitative thresholds for designation under the DMA, it is not considered an important gateway.
