Description

Closed consultation on European Commission on potential legislation on fair telework and the right to disconnect

On 11 June 2024, the Commission concluded the first-stage consultation with European social partners on the development of EU legislation concerning fair telework and the right to disconnect. This consultation sought information from management and labour in accordance with the European Parliament's 2021 resolution, which called for legislative proposals to regulate these areas. Under Article 154(2) of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (TFEU), the Commission must consult with management and labour before proposing new social policy legislation. The feedback collected during this period will now be analysed to determine if there is a need for further legislative action under Article 153 TFEU. Should this be the case, the Commission will initiate a second-stage consultation with social partners to refine the proposed legislative measures.
