Description

Issued AGCM decision in investigation into Amazon for unfair commercial practices concerning "recurring purchase" option including EUR 10 million fine

On 24 April 2024, the Italian Competition Authority (AGCM) sanctioned Amazon with a fine of EUR 10 million for unfair commercial practices. In particular, the AGCM investigated Amazon's practice on pre-selection of the "recurring purchase" option for products listed on www.amazon.it. The AGCM found that Amazon significantly restricted consumers' freedom of choice by pre-setting the "recurring purchase" option instead of the "one-time purchase" for several products sold by Amazon and third parties, leading consumers to buy products periodically even when there is no actual need.
